Wasim Jaffer pummeled the Pakistan bowlers on day 1 of the second test at Eden gardens, Kolkatta, with an absolutely brilliant 192*, to take India to 352/3 at the end of the day’s play.

Well almost! no joke, it is a commercial with Dhoni acting as the hero dancing (should I say almost dancing) with bollywood babes, dialogues and Sharukh Khan playing the role of a cricketer a.k.a dhoni… a role swap scenario between the two. Hmm… Dhoni seems to be taking his role rather seriously… Chuckles guaranteed… ignore the ad at the start of the video.

It’s funny as the first test concluded, ones’ thoughts runs through the huge void in the middle order of the Pakistani Batting line-up. The absolute over-dependence on Mohammed Yousuf and Younis Khan has hurt Pakistan so much, that I bet the PCB would know look back and see how irrationally and impulsive their decision was to leave out a true giant of a cricketer in every aspect of the game, “Inzamam Ul-Haq”. Scorecard
The formalities were over… India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets. To me it was a boring test match with very ordinary cricket played. The score line indicates a tough contest and yes, it was tough for both teams but I am generally disappointed by the quality of cricket played. There were flashes of brilliance in every department but was also lost in very ordinary batting from both the sides. At the end of the day, India came through because they had a better batting line-up than Pakistan and the difference looking at the performances were only marginal.

Scorecard
At the end of play on Day 1, I had perceived that the Indians would not find it easy batting in their first innings and Pakistan pretty much had a great day today to knock the stuffing out of the Indian batting line-up, ending the day’s play at 228/6 with Laxman remaining unbeaten on 57.

Detailed Scorecard
My first sight of the test match between India and Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, was a bit of a shock. A misty haze was all around and one could not even pick out where the fielders were in the outfield. But the closer camera angles from the stump, confirmed that it was not all that bad and visibility was indeed fit for playing. Delhi at this time of the year is typically like this. The temperature was pleasantly cool, unlike the usual hot and humid conditions, which we are so used to in seeing matches being played on the sub-continent.

On his last set of farewell matches of his glittering career, Darren Lehmann smashed 126* runs off 104 balls to script a remarkable victory for the Redbacks in the Ford Ranger one day cup. He was ably assisted by Matthew Elliot, who also remained unbeaten at 133* off 137 balls.

How often have we come across this phrase uttered in context of India having a population of over a billion people and yet unable to produce a talent pool of cricketers that would dominate world cricket to the extent of what a team like Australia are currently doing. It is kind of baffling isn’t it, considering the huge amount of interest and passion for cricket in India. When you dig deep in thought on this, the answers lie pretty much in our socio-economic condition, and a rich docile cricket board which is only interested in increasing their bank balance every year.
