A refreshing twenty-20 bash
Posted on Jan 14, 2008 by Scorpicity |Away from the madness of the controversies of the India-Australia test series, it was a refreshing change to see the twenty-20 championship bash where Victoria beat Western Australia by 32 runs. The match was entertaining and it was heartening to see a substantial crowd land up to watch the proceedings, which is a far cry from the domestic matches played around in most other countries. There is without a shadow of doubt that this format will indeed be the staple of the near future of the game.
For me it was nice to see Blizzard after a long time since his stint at the Australian team or the A-team, which I cannot clearly recollect. His entertaining 47 put Victoria in motion to post a big 200 plus score. Some of my Australian blogger friends often told me that David Hussey should be playing in the Australian team and were puzzled to see him being left out for the likes of Hodge, Voges etc. I cannot comment much on this due to my ignorance of the Australian domestic circuit but looking at his statistics, it does look impressive. I have seen a few innings recently where he did not make much, but he played quite well in the twenty-20 match. I suppose his time will come pretty soon, with many in the Australian ranks hanging up their boots in a year or two.
Uncle J’s - Cricketwithballs very own Bryce Mcgain was in action. He bowled a beauty to castle Pomersbach and then got knocked about with some wonderful sixes. On a general note, he looks quite a decent bowler who can turn the ball as well, though this was not his game. David Hussey did his bit with the ball as well and bowled well to keep the run rate down and pick 2 wickets.
At the end it was a refreshing match, with nicknames of players on their coloured clothes and umpires in orange half-sleeves! On a jovial note, I wish the umpires had worn shorts with some Hawaiian garlands around their neck… that would make people to perceive them in a different light standing out from their usual uptight body language and clothes… Wish they too had nicknames and show the world that they do also have a lighter side.

Scorpi,
You are taking about the T20 at the WACA?

I could only catch snatches of it, Scorpi, but I’m sure there will be re-runs.
I watched some of the earlier matches. David Hussey was good in the English county circuit too…got to see him on Star Cricket’s County telecast.
He could be in for this round of ODI’s…I expect he should be for the T20 tie.

Hey Scorp, thanks for mentioning me, but I don’t think Bryce would like to be called Brian. Although he does look like a Brian.
Not sure if your getting Blizzard confused with someone else, he has never played for Australia or Australia A, he came onto the scene last year, but still can’t get a full time gig for victoria in 4 day cricket.
As for the umps, i was thinking celebrity umps…

Hi Uncle J…sorry about the Brian thing… corrected it. I had my doubts on Blizzard playing for Australia… couldn’t really recollect… thanks again… like you said am confusing Blizzard with an Aussie opener who played a few matches, did quite well and then faded off from the scene… maybe it was some blewett… don’t really know.
Celebrity umpires sound cool… after all who would object to a Kierra Knightley giving any kind of decisions :)… maybe for a third umpire, it would be cool.

Hey Soulberry… yup, me too caught glimpses of him on the english county circuit but if he is in the reckoning for playing for Australia, then their tradition of having brothers on the same team I suppose would continue… from the waughs to the husseys… though the husseys sound bad :)… Anyway, I wish him luck.

Blewett played like 50 tests i think, mid 90’s till early 00’s. He just retired and now does commentary, i think he commentated the 2020 world cup.
Bryce will be pleased.
