Dhoni overtakes sachin as the highest paid in the endorsement field
Posted on May 31, 2008 by Scorpicity |For somebody like Sachin Tendulkar, who has played cricket for close to 20 years and the other, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who just seemed like yesterday to me when he made his debut, has gone on to overtake Sachin Tendulkar as the highest paid Indian cricketer in terms of endorsements, is quite staggering to me.
Dhoni now makes a whopping Rs. 3.5-5 crore per year in endorsements only which is marginally better than sachin who makes Rs. 3-4 crores annually. The difference is marginal but not to me considering Sachin’s demonic status in India’s cricketing world and how the little boy from Jharkhand has shot to fame and money like a nuclear fueled rocket. Remember all of these are estimates from the market and there is no way a cricketer would actually come out and disclose the amount of money he makes by the side, so you can safely add a cool 40% more to this for each of these guys on all the silent deals that pass by.
5 crores in spending 2 hours to a day in a shoot for about once every 3 months is whopping. In contrast, on a lighter note, how much do we bloggers who write about these guys day-in-and-out and the game make? Zilch or pittance that we would be better off begging out of a railway station.
And to think of the fact that Harbhajan singh wanted to buy a Hummer out of his IPL money huh?
Just to put the record straight, I have no problem in cricketers making money… all I wish is these advertisers want to consider putting less than a tenth into us bloggers who are actually concerned about the game and write about it.
On yet another lighter note, I found on a discussion forum, an overzealous fan that claimed the following.
Bradman never had to face quicks like Sharma and Irfan Pathan. He wouldn’t of lasted a ball against those 2, not to mention a spinner like Sehwag.
I do not know whether it was his sarcasm but whatever it was, it killed me for twenty minutes laughing my way off into the hospital for stitches.

For us non-Indians… how much is 1 crore?
by vmminerva, on May 31 2008 @ 10:30 pm
Seriously man! Dhoni has the luck thing going for him. But something tells me he might run out of that soon. It’s doesn’t take too long for an Indian cricketer to fall from the top to the very pit (wondering whether he will be picked for the next game or not, for no cricketing reasons). As for the advertisers paying us, I’m all for it.

Scorpi,
Bloggers making money? I am yet to recover the cost for my domain.
I have noticed a subtle difference in the products they endorse.
Sachin has never grown out of his prodigy image. As far as I known he is stuck with endorsing, beverages, biscuits and maybe sports goods.
Whereas Dhoni is endorsing life style products. ( More scope here?)

Here is something I had always dreamt about and now am seriously thinking to implement. I would love to get your feedback on.
I am planning on opening Cricket Batting Cages all across India, starting with New Delhi. It will consist of 12-15 batting acges utilizing Cricket bowling machines intended for players to go out and hit, Twenty20 style. Adjacent to this area will be a Virtual Twenty20 arena that will once again utilize bowling machines but is able to field atleast 6 players (6-a-side anyone?), so basically you can field, if you wish, 6-a-side team and start your games again hitting all over the arena. The ambience will be pretty much the same as we see today in IPL games.. with same crowd noises, audio-visual effects, cheerleaders etc..
So what do you guys think ? Let me know with your comments.

scorpi,
very funny! and not in a sarcastic kinda way -like that last bit, or was it? got a link to that?
sp, very funny! and not in a…
MSD dng lifestyle is a clear drift of where the wind’s blowing -best, his casting, direction, ads have been cool -in a mast desi way. They haven’t made him do what he doesn’t look good in. And yeah, he can act.

Absheek… welcome to cricketfizz… unfortunately the numbers say that he has gone past… and what is to be considered that from no won, Sachin will be going down as he comes towards the end of his playing days and Dhoni is going to take it to another level in terms of these numbers.
by scorpicity, on June 3 2008 @ 9:15 am
Hi Syed…. welcome to cricketfizz… interesting concept… sounds really good… but this would also need a solid heavy investment… What is your investment budget… The idea is great and if you can open it to the masses at a smaller entrance fees… you might well be on the way to profits in 3-4 years.
by scorpicity, on June 3 2008 @ 9:16 am
NC… as I see it this guys is going to overtake and set numbers which will be unheard of in out times, as he has a lot more of those playing days which sachin doesn’t.
by scorpicity, on June 3 2008 @ 9:17 am
Sorry folks… I might not be able to spend time in the blogging world till this saturday… I will check out all the blogs this weekend… cheers

Here is to a great POST!!! Is somebody listening here….pass on some goodies to us bloggers?
by Thomas Rooney, on June 5 2008 @ 6:34 pm
Very funny comment….oh how Bradman would have feared Sehwag! It must be sarcasm!
As an Englishman, I am certain the England players will want a slice of this IPL action. With Pietersen to be the first to make the move during a small window in the international calender next summer.
by scorpicity, on June 5 2008 @ 7:40 pm
Cheers UTP
by scorpicity, on June 5 2008 @ 7:41 pm
Welcome Thomas… how is the interest in the IPL there in England? Does anyone watch it or care about it.
by Thomas Rooney, on June 6 2008 @ 5:30 pm
To be honest, there hasn’t been a huge amount of interest. It is on a television channel that you need to subscribe to and this probably doesn’t help. I’m not sure many people could even tell you who won it. This may change when/if some England players get involved though.
by Syed, on June 6 2008 @ 7:04 pm
Hey Scorp… The concept of Cricket Batting Cages and Virtual Twenty20 arena does have a scope however the investment past is what needs to be carefully looked at. Does anyone know Mr Lalit Modi’s e-mail address ? This concept has a potential to be BIG with say a trademark facility globally known as “V-Twenty20″, an atmosphere of a twenty20 game , accessible by anyone.
Comments, Feedback please ??
by scorpicity, on June 8 2008 @ 10:18 am
Thought so Thomas… and it doesn’t help that England is the only key country without a substantial window at that point and also considering all the major football championships peaking around the same time.
by scorpicity, on June 8 2008 @ 10:19 am
Syed… have no clue on the address. In fact it is impossible to reach him online as they don’t have a website.
by UTP, on June 12 2008 @ 12:31 am

by Som, on June 12 2008 @ 10:01 am
Does anyone see Dhoni overtaking Sachin’s run tally in either form of cricket?
by scorpicity, on June 15 2008 @ 12:36 pm
Yup UTP… bloody busy… it’s going to be tough for me to regularly blog.
by scorpicity, on June 15 2008 @ 12:37 pm
Good point Som… that’s exactly why these figures are astonishing.
by Consanthin, on June 16 2008 @ 9:33 am
Hi all,
You are right.. He is getting more than sachin now a days. But Sachin got the same three years back.. So calculate the time period and all stuffs.. Dhoni has some quality like he can control himself according to the game’s way and he can hit the ball in the same time.. He is playing mind game like aussies, but with in his own team.. He has huge luck than others in cricket world.. He can be good captain as well as player in future,if he react in right way…
by scorpicity, on June 16 2008 @ 9:40 am
H Consanthin… welcome to cricketfizz… you are right… he is perhaps the luckiest cricketer around… it is to see what happens when his sheer luck runs out… same thing happened to sehwag LOL.
by Consanthin, on July 8 2008 @ 5:36 pm
Hi all,
Dhoni is having unbelievable lucks now.. Now he is getting mopre than sachin,Right?..
“But Sachin will get the same after some years,But no
one can”
Dhoni will not get out of this amount of famous soon.Because he is very good mind gamer. But he is playing within us like below.
1)he will change his order according to pitch and bowlers.
2)if india losing,he try to be not out without trying to change the game to india favour.
3)In first batting,he will not hit the ball till the end even though he has the hitter image and wickets in hand.
4)Other player didn care too much about average,But he will because he knows average ill tell about player in future.
5)Do you think he is playing better than Gambhir?..But he in top of the rank list..
6)He is not playing any match winning innings after the got the cement place in the squad or after became captain.
