Michael Clark becomes Australia’s twenty-20 captain

In a significant move to groom Michael Clarke for the future, he has been named as the captain of Australia’s Twenty-20 team against New Zealand. Adam Voges makes his return and newcomer Ashley Noffke is all set to be part of the squad.
Ricky Ponting, who will turn 33 next month had earlier indicated his desire to bring in young blood into the team and start the process of grooming them. At times, when Ponting was injured, Gilchrist filled in as captain and for a brief time, Hussey also did so.
Hussey certainly was horrified when New Zealand belted the Aussies when he took over and I remember him sending out an urgent SOS to Ponting to get back and lead the team. But actually on a serious note, Hussey is almost the same age of Ponting and in all likelihood may not be around too long after Ponting leaves, hence it makes sense for Clarke to be tested.
Ponting too will feel judging by the rate of his hair falling nowadays that it might all be well for Australia… “Go pup!
So what do you all think? Is Clarke the right guy for the job or should have Andrew Symonds got it?

Well, ever since Clarke started playing for Oz, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind about his leadership potential. So no second thoughts on that.
This is a right move at a right time. No second thoughts on that either.

Scorpi,
I cant get rid of the feeling that Clarke is a pretender.
Not fully convinced of his ability to maximise his talent.
Cheers.

Best young captain in Australia is Cameron White. Shame he can’t get in the side.

Hey guys… really sorry.. it’s been quite a while since I visited my site… been terribly bogged down by work day and night… yes, it was a bit of a surprise on clark for me… symonds must seriously be wondering… or it could just be that symonds is a bit of a loose cannon… either way, clarke has got off to a great start on the NZ t-20… they steamrolled them and predictably, oram gave some decency to the total.

Uncle J… cameron was given his chances and he bumbled quite a bit… but I agree that he could at least be part of the T20 team, as he is a big hitter, tailor-made for this format… maybe he should look to secure his place first.
Dinnie, Ottayan…. yes, can’t really place Clarke anywhere… he looks the unassuming type… but it is usually these unassuming guys that turn out to be good coaches, captains etc. The important thing is that this will give him the confidence that he will remain in the side for years to come as a player and that could spur in onto something big.
Sp, sorry mate… badly tied down with work and hence couldn’t come online… hopefully things will clear out by tomorrow.
