Sanath Jayasuriya retires with a fine 78

Sanath Jayasuriya has announced his retirement from test cricket and the current test match with England will be his last. Stuck with poor form off late in the test version, he displayed in his last innings some vintage Jayasuriya shots with a fine 78, studded with 10 boundaries and 1 six. Just when everyone thought that he has regained his touch, Sanath has decided to call it a day to end a glorious career on a high note.

Sanath Jayasuriya had played 109 matches, scoring 6885 with an average of 40.02. With 14 hundreds and 30 fifties in his career, many would never forget that mammoth 340 he had scored.

but he will be mostly remembered for his heroics in 1996 world cup…he changed the way forever teams used to approach ODIs and specially power playes…(of 15 overs then)…

    Scorpi,

    Two other dimensions.

Sanath has got 98 wickets( Pls check I am writing from memory) which is awesome to say the least.

His fielding has always bordered on the excellent.

Hey Ottayan, SP… Its incredible…. nobody is actually talking about this guy… everyone is gung-ho on Murali’s achievement… sanath is one of the key integral guys who propelled their game to another level… Ottayan yes, that aspect of him having picked up so many wickets will also never be highlighted by many. I regard this guy as a “landmark cricketer”… someone who should be mentioned in the history of the game.
