England on a full nelson grip

This is turning out to be a fantastic test match. England has India by the throat backed by some superb bowling performances from their quickies and the openers. For India, As mentioned so many times in the recent past, much of India's fortunes lie in the two openers and the rest may or may not perform and create the kind of impact that the two on top consistently does. Laxman and Sachin can perhaps be spared but when the top 2 fails, the going is very tough for them. The number 3 slot ...

India goes through a Sri Lankan nightmare

It's been a long time since India truly went through a Sri Lankan nightmare. The last time around was when the likes of Jayasuriya in his peak form was carting the Indian bowlers into retirement and the crafty Aravinda milked them dry out of anything that flowed through their nipples. Surely Venkatesh Prasad would fully endorse this view. This time around, Sri Lankan quite easily beat India leaving them with a rather unique trauma of succumbing to spin. Well played Sri Lanka... Mendis or not,...

Performers of the IPL

A truck load of matches in the IPL have gone by and due to the length of the format, it is still tough to establish a clear cut team that would probably win the tournament. Such as been the swinging fortunes of this format. As far as players of the tournament goes, two guys stand out well with their consistent performances. Gautam Gambhir, the orange cap and highest run maker of the tournament has been slowly but surely staking his claim for virtually all formats of the game for the Indian...

A dull series and a South African mauling

The last test ended with India quite easily romping home after their spinners predictably did what was expected on a dirt track which would easily qualify for Pro-racing or inspire the game developers for Motocross madness. The only positive in that pitch was that a result was definitely on the cards and it would never go on for 5 days. The South Africans can be proud, as they pretty much mauled India during the series. Even though the score line reads 1-1, we can always consider this as a So...

India takes the first swipe

For what was a long and boring commonwealth series, I was hoping for some exciting brand of cricket being played in the finals and a decent match went by with India quite easily beating the Aussies. The Indian bowlers did well to restrict the Aussies to 240 but should also be kicking themselves that they conceded so much, considering they were tottering with 3 wickets down with less than 25 runs on the board within the first 6 overs. I had earlier on this site made calls to look beyond Har...
